When Newtown Hand Therapy Can Help

When Newtown Hand Therapy Can Help

Newtown Hand Therapy

Newtown Hand Therapy is a physiotherapy practice dedicated to treatment of the hand and upper limb.

Hand injuries and conditions have a significant impact on every aspect of daily activities - from work to play, to everything in between. Hand Therapy is here to help this recovery and regain function.

Hand Therapy developed as a sub-specialty of physiotherapy and occupational therapy in the 1970s, in response to the rapidly evolving specialised field of Hand Surgery. Skills involving wound care and scar management are a part of Hand Therapy, as are many skills of the physiotherapy & occupational therapy disciplines. The Australian Hand Therapy Association was founded in 1982 consisting of physiotherapists and occupational therapists who have dedicated their career to providing optimal care for the hand and upper limb.

Newtown Hand Therapy has over 20 years experience in Hand Therapy and shares rooms with Active Physiotherapy Newtown, on the ground floor of the Newtown Business Centre - corner of Erskineville Road and Wilson Street.

All we see at Newtown Hand Therapy are problems concerning fingers & thumbs, wrists, forearms and elbows. We work closely with GPs, Hand Surgeons, Orthopaedic Specialists, Sports Medicine Physicians and most importantly you, to provide the best and most timely care to help you get back on track.

If you've had an injury, we can organise for you to have an X-ray or other investigations, and plan your management based on the results. If there is concern you need more than a rehab program, we can help facilitate referral to the most appropriate people.

You'll notice a sewing machine and an electric frypan in the office, and that's because if you need a splint or support, it will be custom-made on the spot.

Hand Therapy Referrals

No referral is needed for hand therapy/physiotherapy services unless the case is covered under Workers Compensation, Third Party Insurance or DVA. Hand therapy accepts patient referrals under the Enhanced Primary Care scheme for chronic conditions. Please note the EPC program does not cover the full cost of the consult.
